Cricket Injuries
Martyn had a First Class cricket playing career with Central Districts spanning 1994-2003 and was also the lead physiotherapist with the Kent County Cricket Club in England for eight seasons. On return to New Zealand he was the travelling team physiotherapist with the New Zealand Under 19s to the World Cup in Malaysia in 2008. Furthermore he extended his involvement in cricket by completing his England Cricket Board Level III coaching qualifications during his time in the UK. Even now he still rolls out for the Central Districts Masters and Cornwall NBLs playing one day cricket when time allows.
With his vast involvement and knowledge of the game and the unique stresses and strains playing cricket puts on the body Martyn is the ideal person to see for any cricketing issues. Problems can range from low back pain in bowlers to shoulder pain from throwing to elbow and wrist pain from batting. Whatever the issue, the likelihood is that Martyn has seen it and dealt with it before.
Martyn will assess the injury, treat the pain and most importantly address any underlying issues which may have predisposed to the injury. These could include any muscle imbalances, overuse/overtraining (often in developing kids/adolescents) or technical issues such as provocative bowling or throwing techniques.
